Law enforcement in Yonkers, New York must be doing a lot of things right. The Westchester County city on the outskirts of Manhattan just ranked super high on a new list of the Safest Cities in America.
The research team at WalletHub, a leading financial site, relied on certain criteria in compiling their list. They studied factors like the crime rates, unemployment, traffic deaths, natural disasters, and financial security of more than 180 cities.
When all was said and done Yonkers landed at #5. Yep, Yonkers is considered the be the fifth safest state in the union. Pretty attractive, huh?

It's hard to argue with the beauty of Yonkers, too. Green spaces include Untermyer Park and Gardens, with its formal Walled Garden, water features and river views. The Hudson River Museum has American art, an 1876 mansion and a planetarium.
In regards to the 2025 ranking of America's safest cities, WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo says, “When people think about safety in a city, their minds probably immediately go to things like the crime rate, auto fatality rate or risk of natural disasters. The safest cities in America protect residents from these threats of bodily harm and property damage, but on top of that, they also help secure people’s financial safety. Financial safety includes things like minimizing the risk of fraud and identity theft, keeping the population employed and insured, and combating homelessness.”
In case you're wondering what city is the Number 1 safest in America it's Warwick, Rhode Island. Burlington, Vermont, which is not far from The Hudson Valley and a place I visited in 2024 and REALLY enjoyed, ranked as the 3rd safest city in the United States.
Rounding out the Top 5 at #2 is Overland Park, Kansas and at #4 Juneau, Alaska.
Congrats, to Yonkers for the great showing!
