It wasn't the average end to Prom Night for a group of teenagers in Whitesboro, New York (in Oneida Co.) who are being hailed as heroes after saving a family from a fire there.
As they were driving to a post-prom party on Saturday, May 17, Aiden Kane's girlfriend reportedly spotted flames shooting out of the garage of a home. The couple and several of their friends pulled over to alert the homeowner to the fire.
Kane pounded on the front door while Donato Jellenich called 9-1-1. A father and two frightened children answered. Aiden tells WKTV Utica that his girlfriend took the little girls to safety across the street.
Tyler Sojda said the blaze was moving quickly and had they not intervened when they did the outcome could have been bad.

The teens say that although their garage and home were damaged and their vehicle charred, the family they saved is grateful for bringing the fire to their attention and for their bravery.
From high school students to heroes in one night! Incredible!
