Is The Hudson Valley About to Go on a Starbucks Diet?

Recent news has me wondering, 'Is my favorite local Starbucks in trouble?'

As part of a $1 billion restructuring 'Back To Starbucks' plan, the popular coffee chain will reportedly close around 100 underperforming stores, according to CNBC. Even more unfortunately, after letting go of 1,000 employees at its corporate level earlier this year, Starbucks plans to layoff an additional 900 workers.

Starbucks' sales have reportedly slumped over the last year and a half. I've been sitting here, with a freshly brewed Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand, wondering what's to blame. Most every Starbucks I visit anywhere ever has a drive-thru line too long for me to wait in, so I go into the store. That indicates to me that even though the cost of my favorite coffee drinks there continue to go up, I (and other SBux devotees) keep going back for more. But has inflation and the rising price of coffee beans hurt Starbucks bottom line even though they keep making their drinks more expensive?

The answer is likely, 'yes'. And it appears to me Starbucks keeps trying to reinvent the wheel to attract customers, oat-milking this and adding protein powder to that. I mean there are almost TOO many new menu items each season it's dizzying. Is it possible that TOO much variety can push people away?

Still, that green Starbucks logo is like a Bat Signal for me anywhere I go. It's like a beacon, a constant, especially when I'm in unfamiliar territory. In my opinion more Starbucks is better than less. My curiosity NOW turns toward if any of the 100 stores Starbucks plans to close will be here in The Hudson Valley.

Starbucks to ME equals convenience. That may sound 'high maintenance' but it's one less decision I have to make in a day. Hopefully, the location you know and frequent doesn't end up on the chopping block. Once we know, you'll know!

Can you think of any underperforming Starbucks stores in HV that could be in danger? Let us know.
