Brewster Elks Collect Food For Veterans

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is an American fraternal order and charitable organization founded in 1868 in New York City, originally established as a social club.

Over the years the organization has evolved into a nationwide brotherhood dedicated to community service, patriotism and mutual aid.

With over 750,000 members across 1,700 lodges, the Elks are known for philanthropic programs supporting veterans, youth scholarships, and disaster relief.

One of the region’s most active Elks chapters is the Brewster Elks, which Sunday thanks to groceries purchased through the Freedom Grant and the generous donations from its members, delivered $3,000 worth of groceries to the VA Hudson Valley Food Pantry at Castle Point in Montrose.

The food pantry supports 130 veteran families.

Elks spokesman Peter Priolo said, “We are honored to help make a difference for those who have served our country.”
