NAMI Westchester Celebrates 40 Years!

NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) Westchester celebrated a milestone last week-- 40 Years serving individuals and groups throughout Westchester County! To mark this milestone (and only their 2nd gala in 40 years) they brought in a number of high-profile supporters of the organization to share their stories and it had a huge impact on the night's festivities.

FOX 5 News Anchor, Steve Lacy, was the MC of the evening-- introducing families and individuals who have not only made an impact on the community-- but have used NAMI's services. The honorees were Jason & Brill Garrett (former NY Giants player and coach,) Sharon McCarthy (former NAMI Executive Director,) Pat White (former admin for Westchester Co. Dept. of Health) and Jimmy Fink (media personality.)

About NAMI Westchester:

NAMI Westchester was formed by a steering committee of five in 1980 under the name Westchester Advocates for Mentally Ill in order, "to assure that people who are mentally ill are afforded the same basic human rights as all other citizens; to improve and insure the quality of life for the mentally ill; and to promote positive relationships with the community-at-large." Issues including stigma, housing, education and patients’ rights were priorities. The organization was incorporated and granted tax-exempt status in 1983; in 1998, the name was changed and incorporated as National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Westchester Inc. Since inception, this organization has been the premier organization in Westchester County that supports the families of the individual living with mental illness, and provides resources, help and hope to those in need of direction and support.
