All 178 Rite Aid Stores in New York Will Reportedly Close

The Empire State will reportedly be without a single Rite Aid store after it's officially filed for it's second bankruptcy.

Since initially filing for bankruptcy in 2023, the pharmacy retailer, founded in 1962 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, shuttered many of it's underperforming locations, secretnyc.co reports. But as it would seem that wasn't enough to save Rite Aid from fully going under.

And although that means the nearly 20 remaining Rite Aid stores here in The Hudson Valley and throughout the rest of New York state will eventually close for good, while the retailer goes through bankruptcy and the process of selling off its assets it will reportedly continue operations including filling prescriptions for customers.

Rite Aid will also assist customers in having their prescriptions transferred to other pharmacies, according to it's Chapter 11 filing.

In a statement, Rite Aid CEO Matthew Schroeder says, “While we have continued to face financial challenges, intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes in which we operate, we are encouraged by meaningful interest from a number of potential national and regional strategic acquirers. As we move forward, our key priorities are ensuring uninterrupted pharmacy services for our customers and preserving jobs for as many associates as possible."

As for WHEN the closings might happen, there's no current timeline but it wouldn't be surprising if it's by the end of 2025.
