The fellow troopers of Sgt. Nigel Barnett are undoubtedly heartbroken and grieving the loss and the 'end of watch' of a brother in blue. A deep sense of sorrow, unity, and quiet strength will carry them forward after Barnett's sudden and tragic death this week in The Hudson Valley.
Barnett was reportedly driving southbound on the Taconic State Parkway Tuesday morning around 6:30 a.m., according to MidHudson News, when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail near East Fishkill. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation into the fatal crash is reportedly ongoing.
Not only was Nigel Barnett a nearly 20-year veteran of the New York State Police and a sergeant, his most recent post was serving as station commander of Troop K in Cortlandt.
In a statement posted to their official Facebook page, New York State Police writes, 'It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Sergeant/Station Commander Nigel Barnett, who was killed in a motorcycle crash this morning while traveling to work.'
There are no words of condolence enough to express our deep gratitude for Sgt. Barnett's service to his community and his dedication to protecting the residents of the state of New York, nor is there enough sympathies we can convey to his loved ones and fellow NY State Troopers.
We are awaiting details regarding memorial and funeral services.
