Teacher of the Month!
Mr. Evan McGregor

Asst Principal Troy Bilyeu, Mr. McGregor, Principal Adam Pease
Orchestra Teacher
Mahopac High School
Listen to the interview
Why are they Teacher of the Month?
Mr. McGregor is an incredible orchestra teacher. I hadn't played the violin in two years when i rejoined the orchestra at the high school but Mr. McGregor made me have a love for the instrument once again. He really helped me get back into playing and enjoying being a part of an orchestra. Orchestra rehearsal is probably my favorite period of the school day. Mr. McGregor makes every rehearsal fun and we are always seeming to learn something new everyday. He is also the most passionate music teacher I've ever had. He loves what he does so he really gets all of his students to participate in playing. In fact, he is going to make sure that next year incoming freshman will be able to get orchestra as an elective so that scheduling wont get in the way as it has in the past. He listens to everyone's opinions and tries his best to make the orchestra experience the best and most fun it could be. Mr. McGregor has made me and all his other students have a love for music and
I cant wait to get back to orchestra next year!
Mr. McGregor, or as we call him, "McG," has been a phenomenal instructor and and a brilliant mentor for those of us lucky enough to have him as our orchestra teacher. As a new, young teacher, he has only been in our school district for 2 years and has completely turned our string program around. He conducts the middle school & high school orchestras, the HS Chamber orchestra, and gives lessons to every student. Mr. McGregor has motivated us in our music careers and has been an inspiration to his students. He gives up on no one and truly believes that we can all achieve outstanding musical abilities as long as we practice and have confidence. He takes the time to get to know each and every one of us and find ways to relate music to our personal lives. Mr. McGregor knows how to have fun in class, but also is able to keep us focused. Our district's music program was slowly disintegrating, but he brought it back up to par and even prevented it from being cut completely due
to budget issues. He strongly believes in our ability as a group and does everything he can to help us grow. We even participated in the High Note Festival this year and earned the highest ranking of Superior Orchestra thanks to his patience and perseverance. His determination to help every last student succeed deserves this recognition more than any other teacher I've ever hadÂ
Mr. McGregor is easily the best teacher I have ever had; orchestra or otherwise. He is the most dedicated orchestra teacher our district has seen in a while and he puts in the time and effort to get to know his students. He is an easy going yet serious teacher who knows how to make the class challenging but fun. Because of his hard work our orchestra has become significantly more advanced and fine-tuned. He’s an easy teacher to talk to and he always has something funny to say. He makes the school day a little more bearable for all of us..
