Randy Turner

Production Director/On-Air Fill-In

I’ve been active in radio for 21 years. Prior to my arrival at WHUD, I spent 9 years at a similar station in Poughkeepsie. WHUD’s listeners have been very welcoming to me and many people who used to listen to me on my previous station have told me that they followed me here. Thank you. I’m so happy to be part of the WHUD team. This station has a lot of heritage in the Westchester and Hudson Valley area.

I’m very passionate about radio; it’s definitely “in my blood”. In addition to my on-air work over the years, I’ve designed, engineered and hosted numerous long form programs, special features and other broadcast pieces. I do free-lance voice-over work for radio, television and video projects all over the country and I’m an audio mastering engineer. Yes, I was the Audio Visual Geek when I was growing up … and I’m proud of it.

I’m not into sports at all. Never was. This makes my wife very happy because I don’t spend my weekends horizontal on the couch. In fact, I once mentioned, on the air, that I never liked sports … that I was the AV Geek in school and I turned out OK. A woman stopped to see me at a station appearance a few weeks later and said “Thank You”. Her husband had been pushing their son into sports against his wishes. She told me that, because of what I said, she found the strength to help her son explore the things that he wanted to which included classical music and computers. I told her that he’ll learn as much about “team spirit” from those things as he would from running around a field chasing a ball. In fact, he probably learned more.

Dawn and I have three very funny cats … the big orange boy is Dino, the black boy is Bamm Bamm and the little grey striped girl is Pebbles. My family had dogs when I was growing up and they were always fun. I never thought I’d be a cat person, but these three are really unique and unusually social for cats. We get a lot of joy from them.

I’m a big British TV fan. Absolutely Fabulous, Coupling, Fawlty Towers, French and Saunders, Footballer’s Wives, Hustle, Little Britain, Mile High, Mr. Bean, and The Vicar Of Dibley are some of my favorites. There are a few BBC Radio shows I enjoy including It’s Been A Bad Week, The Now Show and The Powder Room.

Meanwhile, back in the states, on TV I enjoy “24”, Amazing Race, Big Brother, Freaks and Geeks, Friends, Home Improvement, Las Vegas, Mad About You, NewsRadio, Northern Exposure, Seinfeld, Spin City, Sports Night, Survivor, That 70’s Show, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and the classic WKRP In Cincinatti.

And from the movies category: Caddyshack, The Abyss, The Italian Job (2003), Oceans 11 and 12, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Meet Joe Black, Apollo 13, Armageddon, Face/Off, U-571, The Bourne Identity and Supremacy, Catch Me If You Can, 2010 The Year We Make Contact and pretty much all the James Bond movies.

Thanks for listening. See you around town!
