M-F 12:00AM - 5:30AM
I was born and raised in New York's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood on the West Side of Manhattan. Everybody there was tough except for me. I graduated from Power Memorial Academy High School, which doesn't exist anymore. (I know how that feels) I attended Pace University in New York, majoring in English Literature. I wanted to be a writer, but that seemed like a lot of work, so I said, "Oh, Hell, I'll just be a DEEJAY and get paid to have fun!" I received my training at the School of Broadcasting and Announcing in the old Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City. I got my first job at WCSS, Amsterdam, New York in the Albany Market. I did an evening music show Monday through Friday, wrote and produced commercials and did news on the weekends. That's when I realized that radio was not all fun and games! I moved south to WKNY, Kingston where I was a reporter and afternoon news anchor. In 1981, I got married and started to work at WHUD. Neither my wife nor WHUD have been able to get rid of me! I still like to write, and have written three screenplays and two short books. I haven't made any money from my writing, but I never made much from radio either, so I can't let that stop me. I am something of a historian on the subject of the Titanic, because my Great Uncle Patrick O'Keefe of Waterford Ireland was a 3rd class passenger who survived the sinking by swimming through the freezing water to the overturned lifeboat, "Collapsible B". Look for my book, In Search of Great Uncle Pat: Titanic Survivor, at www.publishamerica.com Check out my home page at http://hometown.aol.com/jrnolan. I do celebrity impersonation and character voices, which have been used in commercials over the years, and I even did a little standup comedy in New York. I was a runner-up in the "Ed Koch Sound Alike Contest" at the Improv.
