Going for Gold

How are your goosebumps these days?

I've heard many say "The Olympics are soooo boooring...."

Really? Maybe some people don't get juiced unless someone is stuffing their head in a bucket of eels for a million dollars. Others say "I already heard who won...why should I watch". Yep - it's not like American Idol - packaged for our prime time convenience. But then again - this is one of the few things we do globally - and planetary functions can't always be in our time zone.

Thank you athletes - thank you parents of athletes - and all those who sacrificed and prepared to get some of the most gifted and disciplined young people to test their limits on a world wide stage. I can't watch a single event without having my heart soar. I've scared the pets with the spontaneous eruption of couch pounding and applause.

I wasn't the kid picked last to be on the team at school - I almost didn't graduate high school becuase I never went to gym class!! Sports terrified me. I didn't learn to bowl until I was 29! But as the years have gone by I've managed to find my inner athletic spirit. Skating, hiking and yoga may be the extent of my sports repertoire - but I am glued to the Olympics coverage. Even though I know who won already, even though I should have been in bed hours ago - I watch becuase the athletes give the gift of their talent for us enjoy and my support is all I can repay them with. And, for a few hours an evening I get to learn a little bit about different cultures and a whole lot about how brave and beautiful the human spirit is. Look at that - the world at play and giving their best - it makes me dream Olympic size dreams of....

Peace,

Kacey
